3rd Asia Pacific Consensus Meeting on Colorectal Cancer Screening - 27 & 28 Nov 2021

The Third Asia Pacific Consensus Meeting on Colorectal Cancer Screening was successfully held on 27th and 28th November 2021. The Meeting was jointly convened by Professor Joseph J Y Sung from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Professor Han Mo Chiu from National Taiwan University, and Professor Evelien Dekker from University of Amsterdam. A total of 27 experts took part in the meeting which was conducted virtually. The meeting examined the latest published data and introduced updated new recommendations for colorectal cancer screening in the Asia Pacific region.

Indonesian Digestive Disease Week (IDDW) 2016

Event: Indonesian Digestive Disease Week (IDDW) 2016 and Dry Endoscopy Workshop (Video Presentation)
Date: April 28-30, 2016 | Venue: Jakarta, Indonesia

For these events we introduced the theme "Increasing the Knowledge and Skill of Indonesian Medical Doctors in the Field of Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy towards ASEAN Economic Community 2016."

This scientific meeting was organized by The Indonesian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG), The Indonesian Society for Digestive Endoscopy (ISDE), and Division of Gastroenterology, Departement of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia.

The scientific sessions highlighted many important issues, current advances, and controversies in the field of gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy. No less than 30 distinguished faculties from Indonesia and other Asian Countries have been invited to share their knowledge and skills with us.


The 12th Japan-Korea Joint Symposium on Helicobacter infection

The 12th Japan-Korea Joint Symposium on Helicobacter infection was held in Jeju Island, Korea, from 20th to 21st March 2015. The symposium was open to all physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals, academic scholars and researchers. The topics this year included wide range of issues from Helicobacter to gastric cancer. There were updates in the management of upper gastrointestinal diseases, changing epidemiology of Helicobacter in Asian countries and recent advance on the Helicobacter pathophysiology. Gastric biology, prevention and treatment were the core topics of joint symposium along with the Helicobacter treatment strategies. World-leading scholars were invited to share their experiences and perspectives in their fields on Helicobacter through lectures and topic discussions. This year, there were 288 participants from Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Mongolia, Hongkong and Taiwan. There were 106 scientific abstracts submitted for oral and poster presentation.


The Multi-national Alliant Gastro-Intestinal Cancer Symposium (MAGICS) 2015

The Multi-national Alliant Gastro-Intestinal Cancer Symposium (MAGICS) 2015, the 2nd international symposium of Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Cancer (KSGC), was held in Seoul, Korea, from 24th to 25th January 2015. The meeting brought together a wide variety of healthcare professionals from around the world, including gastroenterologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists, and surgeons. The theme of the 2015 meeting was “A Road to Understand Issues of Cutting-edge in Gastrointestinal Cancers,” focusing on advances in both biology and technology for the treatments of patients with gastrointestinal cancer. The two-day scientific meeting included 3 plenary sessions, 5 clinical symposia, papers, and 2 translational symposia. The meeting also welcomed two keynote speakers; John Michael Carethers of University of Michigan, USA, who delivered a lecture on the biomarker-directed targeted therapy in colorectal cancer; and Heike Grabsch of Maastricht University Medical Center, Netherlands, who delivered a lecture on endoscopic biopsies from the gastrointestinal tract and their suitability for molecular analyses. In addition, the Meeting Awards Ceremony honoured 27 members of the international fellows.


National Civil Award “Sitara-i-Imtiaz” to Professor Muhammad Umar on National Day of Pakistan, 23rd March 2015

On National Day of Pakistan, 23rd March 2015, Professor Muhammad Umar received the highest Civilian Award of Pakistan – "Sitara-i-Imtiaz" by the President of Pakistan, Mr Mamnoon Hussain at the National Investiture Ceremony, in acknowledgment of his contributions in research and development in the field of gastrointestinal and liver disease in Pakistan.

Professor Muhammad Umar graduated from Rawalpindi Medical College with distinction in 1981. He was awarded the “President College Crest” in 1979 by President of Pakistan, “President Gold Medal” in 1981 for his position in University Examination and “Best Rawalian Award” in 1985. Now he is the Dean of Rawalpindi Medical College and Chief of Allied Hospitals and Nursing Schools of Rawalpindi. He is the author of many valuable books including national and international guidelines on hepatitis C. He also established a state-of-the-art Center for Liver and GI Diseases in Holy Family Hospital, Multi Organ Failure Centre (MOF), Department of Emergency and Critical Care (DEC) and Department of Infectious Diseases (DID) in Rawalpindi Medical College.



The 31st Annual International Conference of Pakistan Society of Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy (PSG 2015) was held from 1st to 5th April 2015 at the Serena Hotel, Islamabad, Pakistan. The Conference encompassed the expanded range of issues from new trends, novel tools and modern techniques for GI diseases. The scientific programme included lectures, symposium and endoscopic workshops. World experts were invited to present state-of-the-art lectures and to share their perspectives. read full story
